Why are Miracle Mike and his Kangaroo, Boomer, being chased by blue laser beam shooting cupcakes and two giant layer cake mother ships? Let's just say it's an intergalactic walkabout turned ding bat wonky. To commemorate this weird alter-dimensional variation of Space Cake, we used Vic Secret hops from Australia to dry hop, giving a bright grapefruit note to our favorite DIPA. Enjoy, Jackaroos and Jillaroos!

I am slowly redding up my living room & in doing so, a number of beers for The CANQuest (tm) are CANming to light. I am a big fan of S.M.A.S.H. beers, but I will settle for simply single-hopped, as in this case.
From the CAN: "Space Cake Double IPA - Vic Secret"; " "Our Mission: To Produce Beer without Pretension while Being Free and a Little Crazy".
My mission is to drink EVERY beer in & from a CAN, but it seems less & less likely that I will succeed. That said, I still beCAN with a Crack! of the vent, followed by a slow, steady, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. It foamed wonderfully to form two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with very good retention, leaving a load of lacing in its wake. Color was a solid Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity & my first thought was "BUPGOO!" My seCANd thought was to take a whiff of its nose. Nose had an interesting pine and pineapple CANbination along with a slightly musty maltiness. 8=O I would be VERY curious to know the malt bill on/in this one! Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy & on the low end for the style. The taste was both fruity & cool, like the Mentos that I had at work the other night, very evocative of tropical fruits & pine sap, plus that mustiness that I noted on the nose. This was not the yeast as I am very familiar with that type of mustiness. How very curious! It was quite tasty as a result, with the pine coolness & the mustiness working well in CANjunction to overcome the tropical fruitiness. It led to a semi-dry finish as a result. I might have liked more bitterness & a drier finish, but that is a minor CANplaint. YMMV.

Canned on 8/23/17. Poured from can into glass at home.
Look: Pours amber orange in color with decent sized white head. Very low clarity. No visible floating materials.
Smell: Hoppy aroma. Unspecific fruit, citrus and West Coast IIPA dankness. Sweet caramel malt aroma that hints at a higher alcohol level.
Taste: More specific hop flavor in the taste than the aroma; candied orange, lemon peel and dank pine. More caramel malt sweetness and light biscuit. Hint of alcohol at the finish. Medium bitterness.
Feel: Medium full body. Somewhat creamy. Medium carbonation. Sticky, sweet finish with small amount of alcohol character.
Overall: A good example of a classic IIPA. The hop aroma and flavor are a bit lacking but that may be due to the age of the can. The bright grapefruit notes supposed to come from dry hopping with the secret Australian hops was not especially noticeable either. An overall good beer, but appears to be past its prime.

Deep orange in color with heavy, unfiltered haze. Poured with a short, creamy white foam with good retention. Medium high fruity, sweet citrus hop aromas, with medium maltiness. Medium light bodied with soft medium light carbonation. Expanding boozy warmth from the middle through the finish. Medium citrusy hop flavors with medium malty backbone. Medium bitterness in the middle followed by sweet fruit flavors and pleasantly stinging booziness to the end. Finished with citrus orange notes and boozy heat. Love the pint size can. This had tasty hop and malt character with soothing booziness on the back end. I still prefer the sharp hop flavors and bitterness of west coast ipas.
