From January 2016, so two years now in the bottle. Pours much like any other aged Unidragon, dark but not pitch black, thick but not syrupy. Low head, no lacing, but some legs when swirled. Strong aroma of peated whisky on the nose, mostly botanical but with a bit of smoke on it as well. Good herbal hops, moderate barrel oak, and an undertone of sorghum and wheat near the finish. Really distinctive, a highlight reel of what a barrel can do for you.

From bottle. Thick, black motor oil look. Impressive dark tan head for a 13% barrel-aged. Love the nose. Predominantly a bourbon presence but with a great peated smoke. Nice roasted malts. Taste is great. It's like smoked dark chocolate. Very rich and full. Not sure I've ever had a non-scotch ale aged in scotch barrels. Off to a great start.

22oz bottle from Justdoit1234 (many thanks for the Clown Shoes hook up!). Bottled 1/12/16. Served in a Clown Shoes snifter.
Pours oil black with about three fingers of milky, khaki head. The froth fades to a thin veneer that is easily resuscitated by a quick swirl of the glass. Despite a hearty crown only a few small specks of lace find purchase
Smells roasty and mildly peaty. Notes of heavily kilned malts, dark chocolate, peaty scotch, caramel and something slightly akin to marshmallows.
The flavor of scotch is immediately apparent and consistently present. Drifting in and amongst that strong, peated spirit are notes of bitter dark chocolate, heavy roast, peated malt, molasses, burnt caramel, barrel char, wet oak and a healthy kick of alcohol. Scotch takes the already great Russian imperial stout in a totally different direction than the bourbon that has become so familiar at this point.
Creamy, surprisingly light body with fairly soft carbonation. Finishes with a combination of peat, chocolate, roast and wet charred oak.
Clown Shoes has put together yet another excellent barrel aged imperial stout. I don't care for scotch but Clown Shoes has released a few beers recently that have shown me the value in using those barrels to enhance beer in some great ways. This was a real treat and well worth a little effort to try.

Had on draft at Borough in Minneapolis. An amazing Scotch barrel aged Russian Imperial that has a distinct lightness, hiding its huge ABV. This is one of my favorite beers!

With the few Clown Shoes that I have tried, I've been pretty impressed lately. I was looking forward to this one and it did not disappoint. Dark brown, almost black pour. Smell was boozy and roasty. Slightly thin feel, but it tastes fantastic. The scotch barrel is present but not overpowering, really good balance. Another great BA beer from Clown Shoes. Now if they would just bring back Extremely Angry Beast......
