Mid day settles deep in Mongolia. Genghis Pecan, blindfolded, guides a group of freak show turkeys gifted with barrel dancing skill. Why? Who knows, but they aren't smuggling hobbits. This year's Pecan Pie Porter refines the classic recipe and is perhaps the best version, still at 10.5% abv and still 100% bourbon barrel aged.

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass after aging 7 years. Solid, dark brown color and minimal head. Strong sweet aroma, bourbon, vanilla, and of course pecans. Initial taste of chocolate and medium roast coffee, molasses and nuts with a boozy kick following. Weighty, substantial feel and decent carbonation. Well balanced and worth saving for a while.

Very tasty, nutty imperial porter. Almost reminded me of an imperial stout. Great balance, aromas and bourbon barrel aging. Pours a deep, rich chestnut brown with just a little mild tan head and spotty lingering lacing. Smells of medium coffee, milk chocolate, caramel, toasted nuts, vanilla, bourbon, oak and malt. Taste follows the nose, and as the beer warmed the alcohol booziness really hits you. Smooth, clean, surprisingly mild, slightly sticky mouthfeel and decent carbonation. A well crafted beer.

Everytime I see "Clown Shoes" on the bottle I know there will be something exceptional in it.
My first experience was the Blacorn Unidragon.
That brew tilts the expectation trembler near the tilt level.
I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this beer. Everything should be toned down from the Imperial Stout style; but maybe it's me I was kind of uninspired here. Definitely a fine tight solid brew-- perhaps too extreme under the porter moniker-- but maybe not. It just didn't wow my taster. It's a wonderful porter non-the-less-- maybe a bit heavy I'm not sure. Worth trying to see for yourself. Enjoy!

Has a really nice body,slight thick,creamy,oily feel.
Aroma is sweet malt candy and bourbon, caramel and vanilla follow.
There's roasted malt and a hint of pecan.
Taste really follows the aroma with sweet bourbon being forward. All the other flavors show up with the sweet malty bourbon coating the tongue and lingering a long time
Overall it was an excellent beer that could work with dessert or having it on it's own. The bourbon was some of the best I've had in a beer with flavor being so full but not coming off boozy or with a harsh alcohol burn

Found a bomber of this while visiting cape cod. Poured into a small hotel goblet/wine glass.

Appearance is jet black with just a hint of carmel color on the edges. It offered a very thin head that all but disappeared within moments, and only slight lacing.

First smell was of pecan pie (no surprises there). Also hints of molasses, carmel, oak, raisin bread, vanilla, and roasty malt. As it warmed, the bourbon was more apparent.

While the smell was sweet, the flavor was more balanced. A sweet nuttiness is still there, but its not cloying. At 10.5% it quickly dries, leaving its taste on the tongue. Letting it warm to room temp brings more complexity and really lets the bourbon shine through.

Its full bodied without being too thick and sweet without being sticky.

Overall a well balanced beer with plenty of flavor. The bourbon isnt overpowering, but still works to complement the beer’s natural malts and sweetness. I enjoyed this bomber and would drink it again if i were to find it.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a thin collar of tan bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of dark chocolate and pecans are present in the nose. As the beer begins to warm up, bourbon becomes noticeable.
T: The taste follows the smell and has flavors of bourbon with notes of chocolate and pecans. A light amount of bitterness is perceptible.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The bourbon in this beer isn't that strong, but it helps to accentuate the flavors of the pecans and the porter.
