Clown Shoes Beer "Zebra Warren 2021"
16 fl. oz. can "pkg 363 12/28/20 10:18"
$3.99 @ Foodery Beer, Phila., PA
Notes via stream of consciousness: So what exactly is this? It's a double IPA at 8% with mango and pink guava. I didn't even know there was such a thing as pink guava so I looked it up and the pink refers to the color of the flesh inside the fruit. Pink guava has more pulp, more water, less starch, and less sugar than regular guava which seems to me kind of backwards if you're adding it to beer, but whatever. It's a hazy golden-orange in color with visible particulate in suspension. The head is a finger's width of off-white foam. The aroma is displays tropical fruit over a sweetish malt base. Obviously the mango and guava are present but there's a little bit of orange and papaya there as well. On to the taste... Oh, geez, you can really taste the guava in it. It's sweet but there's also a light touch of acidity to it. The mango, orange, and papaya are present as well. Anything else?... nectarine... berries... roses... grassiness, earthiness, and distant pine... and a spritz of alcohol. It doesn't seem bitter but there's some there, I'm guessing around 35 IBUs, and with the splash of alcohol helping it dries in the finish leaving some residual fruitiness and a dusting of earthiness and spice lingering. It's pretty nice. In the mouth it's medium on the full side and gently crisp. If you like tropically fruity beers you could probably drink this all day except for the 8% ABV.

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a very yellow-golden amber color with a one finger head of white foam. The head has a good level of retention, fading slowly over time to leave a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass
Smell – The aroma of the brew is rather strong of a sweet tropical fruit smell of tangerine, papaya, and mango. Along with these aromas comes some notes of a guava as well as some of a bready and slightly doughy smell. Rounding out the aroma is a little bit of caramel and a touch of herbal hop.
Taste – The taste begins with a slightly bitter guava and tropical fruit taste with notes of mango and papaya. At the same time there is a decent showing of a cracker malt as well as a little bit of an herbal and earthy hop. The guava and bitter herbal hop grow stronger as the taste advances, all the while being accompanied by some flavors of an almost dirt like taste. At the end some earthy and pine hops join in as well, leaving one with a rather interesting tropical fruited guava and more moderately dank bittered taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is medium in thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the slightly higher side. For the mix of flavors, the feel is actually pretty good, keeping it more easy drinking and somewhat more refreshing.
Overall – Rather fruity and rich in guava, somewhat dank, and a bit dirty tasting. Overall an OK brew with a more unique taste.
