Found in a Delikatessen in downtown Vienna, the 33cl brown bottle ha a long thin neck and a green and red checkerboard label with two sailboats flanked by maple leaves. Ingredients conform to the purity law. Best before the end of August 2008, I opened it on 2/1/08.
Pours an enticing clear tea brown under a one finger beige head that fades fairly quickly to film and collar, leaving only a couple drops of lace. The nose is mild, with an unusual hint of spice I can't quite place. The mouth is fairly heavy and well carbonated. Mild flavors, with a nice sweetbread opening with a hint of raspberry, followed by a mild and mildly metallic bitterness that grews after the swallow to a dry ache. The first impression is not so great, but it grows on you the more you have and as it warms. Not bad at all, actually.
