I enjoyed this on tap at Brewhouse Grille in Camp Hill, PA.
The color is deep amber bordering on brown with a quick dropping white cap with fine bead and no lace sticks. The smell is like mince meat at first -spice and fruit with a nutmeg and heavy on the clove aroma with nice malt undertone and slight cinnamon accent with gentle caramel aroma with mild dried fruit with subtle toasted malt accent. The feel is nice with woody and spice tinges with moderately high carbonation and medium bitterness with mostly dry finish and practically no alcohol influence.
This pumpkin ale has an excellent spice flavor in the mix which is not overdone with a nice toasted and caramel flavor in the malt to support wiht light hop increasing after the initial spice flavor recdes. There is a slight citrus taste with slight clove in the middle and woody earthy nuttiness perhaps of baked/roasted pumpkin which is pleasant and gives the perception of body with an almost peppery/ginger-like spiciness in the background as it finishes with a mild cookie type molasses taste. Overall this is a really tasty hybrid of a hop forward ale and pumpkin beer with a nice complimentary quality between the hops and spices utilized. Very good if you like ginger and clove- perhaps if you are a fan of chai, very drinkable to me as I enjoy spiced beers and this is nicely spiced.
