July 4th, 2015 - Here's another first: A Carrot IPA. Coming from the creative minds at Twisted Roots, the color is a bright and beautiful dandelion yellow, and slightly hazy. That coloration must come from the carrot, but it is brilliant and bright. On the nose it is lightly hoppy, but has some fresh carrot smell too, reminding me of a home garden. It comes as a surprise that the flavor is a bit bland, with a little dry lemon and a light palate. Additional notes of lemon zest and even a tiny hint of fennel appear too, giving this a summery appeal with a substantial enough body to appreciate. Above all is the hop profile, which engages perfectly with the botanical notes.

Look: 4.25
Huge, huge amounts of foam. Actually foamed over upon opening. Cloudy yellow / orange color. Foamed over on second pour from 750ml bottle. Head retention is OK. Lacing continues after the head recedes.
Smell: 4.25
Sweet, citrusy, and strong veggie. Tart fruit and pine.
Taste: 4.5
Some hop bitterness, but goes into sweet malt, caramel, and savory/earthy flavors. Sweetness doesn’t last long as it dries out fast and gets back to bitterness. There is a nice savory and buttery taste.
Feel: 4.25
Medium bodied. Slick on the tongue and stays strongly carbonated.
Overall: 4.25
Very good IPA. I was intrigued with the carrots, but they aren’t’ that noticeable. They give it a bit of sweetness and some earthiness. Great hop flavor throughout.

Yeah, carrot. You read that correctly. I didn't think it added much to the flavor, maybe color just a bit. A thinner IPA and quaffable considering the abv.
