What happened to drinkability? Cause this guy was easy to put down and had a refreshing aftertaste leaving my mouth wet. I'm beginning to get into Scottish Ales. They do a decent number on this guy but it wasn't anything to go and look for. Have it in the tap room if you're there.

Enjoyed on tap a the brewery's tasting room. Left this to put out the fire from the chiles and bourbon, being a malt combination, but it seemed astringent a bit in its own right. Dark colour, drinkable, but nothing to write home about. Want a more complex and rich malt profile.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a standard pint.

A: Dark brown. Virtually no head or carbonation to speak of. Very sparse spots of lacing remain as you drink it down.

S: Nutty roasted malt, molasses, and sweet tea. Also, a touch of raisin in there.

T: Pungent malty flavor, with a slightly bittersweet kick, and a bit of a piny hop.

M: Full body, but a bit of a washed-out feel to it. Rubbery and pungent on the front end, with a steely aftertaste. Has kind of a synthetic sweetness to it.

D: Not overly off-putting, but not really a crowd pleaser for me.

Atmosphere is very average. Deep hue, but no head or carbonation. Nose is okay. Nice combination of sweet and malt components. Flavor similarly has a decent collection of components, but it just doesn't come together well. Overall, this is an average quaff.

P: Short brown 12oz bottle. No best by date. Bottle says: Colorado state fair 1998 gold medal, 1999 & 2000 bronze medal. Scottish style ale

A: One finger brown/white head. Retains well. Dark brown, almost black color. some lacing.

S: Caramel malt, Roasted malt. coffee.

T: Roasted malt. Coffee. strange after taste.

M: Medium body, medium carbonation.

D: Easy to drink, and a good beer. would buy again.

12 oz bottle lacking any sort of freshness date. Pours a dark crimson color with a thin, beige foam that is fairly tight-bubbled but does not exhibit much in the way of retention or lacing.

Nose is sweet, burnt toasty malts and dark, raisin-like fruitiness. Yea, there is some mild hop notes, but this is not nearly as bright as I thought it would be...I was expecting an American red ale based on the label.

Scottish Ale? Maybe 60 shilling, this is a pretty light-bodied brew. Probably fits better there than red ale as it lacks hop bite and has a deep fruitiness that is not typically found in American red ales. It has a British, earthy tone to it that is pretty enjoyable. It went down surprisingly fast, I guess I liked it! One of the tastier Twisted Pine offerings I have had, pretty cool brew.

A - Pours up a dark amber with a thin tan head that collapses quickly to a small layer of bubbles.

S - Some caramel aromas, raisin-y Crystal malt aromas with a hint of hops.

T - Caramel and raisin sweet malt flavors with some. Faint hop bitterness on the back of the tongue in the finish.

M - Medium bodied

D - I'm not a fan of the raisin-y malt flavor. I won't have another.

Decent looking dark mahogany beer, with a nice two-finger tan head that quickly fades to a ring. Decent lacing, however.

Smell is good roasted malt, salted figs, light grass and floral hops. A bit of wet leather.

Taste is spot on to the aroma, but with a nice dry-and-lightly-bitter finish.

Good round mouthfeel.

However, for a Scottish ale, this one seems a bit weak overall. Not overt enough. So, the drinkability goes down for me.

Worthwhile.

Bottled date of march 06 pours red with a 3 fingers+ amber head. Very good head retention & some lacing

S: Malt sweetness

T: Malt sweetness up front followed by slght fruittyness& slight hop& grain bitterness. Finished dry & slighlty fruitty

MF: Medium bodied with appropriate carbonation for the style. Good balance, but I would like more malt profile

Drank very easy, not a bad attempt at the style, a little more ABV would suite me

Murky, dark amber with a small, glass-hugging, light amber head.
Sweetish fruit—plums—and smoky, toffeeish malt make up the majority of the nose, along with minimal hop spice, and a touch of Scotch tape.
Roasted/caramelized fruit, and campfire twigs up front. Sweetish, toffee malt midway through. Hops come in late; kinda piney, scotch tape, and some homebrew astringency. Finish is bittersweet. This medium-bodied ale was a bit rough, and a touch cloying at times, but I’d give it another chance next time I’m in Boulder.
