I like this a lot more than I thought I would. given a mixed bag from twisted pine so far. this one is not retired, recently bottled again. chocolaty brown in color with a colossal chocolate milk head that wont quit. the nose is American ale yeast on top of copious chocolate malt, limited unmalted barley, and semisweet chocolate chips. the flavor matches well. with quite a bot of chocolate coming through, especially in the finish. its not quite bitter enough for me, not that I need a bitter porter, but that its a style which demands some balance, and this one lacks that. I don't know if it needs more hops or roasted barley or what, but that middle is missing for me. I do like all the flavors though, and the lighter mouthfeel that still maintains a creamy vibe really works for this. its a good porter, but in the context of what else is commercially available in Denver, its only middle of the road. we are indeed spoiled in this market, but I am not complaining. this would work better somewhere else. that said, its a good enough porter all up.

A: Very dark pour, high carbonation, almost making it look like a soda. Off white finger width head quickly dissipates.
S: Heavy coffee with a good amount of sweetness. That sugary sweetness with a side of nuttiness reminds me a bit of a brown ale. Rich and delicious.
T: Much like the smell, rich and delicious. The coffee comes through primarily complemented by a good taste of chocolate and nut.
M: Fairly heavy as one might expect from a porter. Nice and thick.
One of the better porters I've had in a while.

12 fl oz bottle served in a snifter, reviewed live:
A - Pours a fairly creamy, tan 2 finger head. Retention is decent. The color is a non-transparent black.
S - Fair amount of roasted malt mixed with semi-sweet chocolate, coffee, cream, and some surprising subtle musty hops notes. Moderate strength and really inviting.
T - A full roasted malt foundation builds the beer. Chocolate, dark fruit, and cream linger into the finish, which is bitter, but nicely so.
A nice level of creaminess carries the beer.
M - the one flaw. Too wet and smooth. Could stand to be fuller in body. Finishes dry, though.
D - Overall, a very good beer. It has its shortcomings, but I'd have it again.

Thanks for the import pops!
Pours a very dark amber color with an inch of tan head that dissipates quickly. The nose is a bit chocolate like with some smokiness and hops. The taste is filled with roasted malt and offers cocoa and mocha like tastes. A light hop flavor outlines it all. Crisp carbonation fills the mouth with a medium bodied feel. Overall, drinkable and tasty.

A - Poured out an opaque, jet black color with a one-finger brown head of bubbly foam. Minimal lacing.
S - It smelled of chocolate and molasses with some floral notes in the background.
T - It has a burnt molasses flavor that you'd expect in a big stout or some sort of smoked porter. Nice chocolate flavor with hints of toffee and a mild bitter hop bite.
M - It was crisp and sharp but a little sticky. A medium bodied ale.
D - This is an interesting beer. No idea on the ABV but it felt like a big beer. Tasty but it didn't really feel like a porter.

Pours a nice, inviting medium black color, with a good brown head that disapates somewhat quickly to a light lacing on the surface. Aromas of black licorice, dark chocolate and dark fruits. Pretty similar on the palate, with just a hint of hops to keep it balanced. Pretty good.

A dark brown pour would look more black if it had a head for contrast. Otherwise, looks a bit flat.
Aroma of molasses and chocolate with some wet licorice. A slight pine zip and some medicinals.
Nothing strong in the flavor. Chocolate, some dark coffee and molasses again. A bit of black plum and raisin.
Finishes a bit dry, like caramel. some chewiness.
Very easy drinking. jeez, I quaffed this one down fast.

Pours coca-cola colour with unusually active carbonation that did not allow the pour to settle down. Zero hed. A faint smell of chocolate. There was some chocolate in the taste,a ad of caramel, and it was on the thin side, but was not that interesting or drinkable.
