Barrington Brewery/Restaurant bottles its beers for local sale under the name "Berkshire Mountain Brewers." This is a Dunkel, with the subtitle "Dark German Lager," so I had trouble guessing which style to put it under. Black as a porter, and as rich, creamy, chocolatey, coffeelike as that style would suggest. However it is refined and clean like a lager, and does not have the tarry, meaty oiliness that I found slightly objectionable in their porter which I sampled at the brewpub. Dunkel or no, this is a terrific beer, with tasty burnt malt profile as previously mentioned. A twinge of piney hops give it a nice kick, and the mouthfeel is an exquisite balance of creaminess and lager-like clarity. Delicious and unique, even if it's not what it claims to be.
