22oz bottle purchased for around $4 at Domaney's in Great Barrington. Best by July notched on the side of the bottle, so this bottle was brewed in April. This is a beer brewed with barley from Maine and local hops. It's different every year, as they brew with what is available to them, so it's always a bit of a surprise!
A- Deep amber color with a nice sudsy white cap of foam that had great retention.
S- Dried apricots, strawberry, and some caramel sweetness are most upfront. It's a very malt forward beer at first glance. Hops rest in the background.
T- Malt sweetness is front and center. Sticky dried fruit, caramel, and fruity esters reminiscent of strawberry. The hops are a bit herbal and grassy. There is perhaps a touch of citrus rind in there, but it is largely hidden beneath the sweetness of the malt. I would say that the profile leans towards the malt a bit too much, as the hops are a bit hidden. They are most noticeable at the very end of the finish and in the lingering aftertaste.
MF- Medium slick body with decent carbonation.
O- This was a decent beer. Enjoyable, but it lacked definitive character to make it interesting for me. I rarely find a beer that isn't enjoyable for what it is, but this beer lacked a spark or uniqueness. The balance sat far too much towards the malt and that did not stand out on its own enough.
