Pours a very dark brown, appearing opaque black in the glass, with a half finger tan head with good retention and lots of lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, hints of chocolate and coffee, slightly vegetal. Flavor starts with light toasted malt, then gets a harsh burnt bitterness, slightly sour. Finish is all char and tart malt. I think this may be a compromised bottle. Medium bodied with active carbonation. The tartness and lack of sweet malt noted by other reviewers, leads me to conclude that this may be a bad bottle. It had just arrived in the store and by all indications was not an old bottle. I couldn't finish it. I will update the review if I discover that this was an anomalous bottle.

A: Poured black, true to iots name with a small tannish cap

S: Hints of toasted malts, cocoa and coffee on the nose, less coffee to me than chocolate

T: A very tasty low octane stout! Good flavor, subtle roastiness and some blended chocolate and coffee

M: Very nice, no carbonation issues, leaves a roasty, chocolate feel with you, very light booze

D: The feel, taste and low octane of this beer make it a very easy to drink stout. My first beer from them was a good one!
