This version was aged in a rye barrel for 7 months, as per the brewery. I'd be surprised to see it for sale other than on tap anytime in the foreseeable future, so I'm simply noting the barrel aging here. Not sure if they have or will serve this beer without the barrel.
Into a tulip at the brewery. Black, a finger or mocha head from the careful pour, good retention, and more than a few scraps of lacing. Looks good.
Woody first, then light vanilla and faint roast. Not strong enough to score higher, even at a good temp.
Malty sweetness, vanilla, and roasty flavors are all prominent and well balanced. Just a nip of roasty bitterness late and into the finish. Very smooth.
Adequate carbonation, thin side of medium body with mild viscosity. Little bit of a roasty finish and mild warming.
Really smooth, tasty, moderately complex and easy drinking stout. Packs a flavorful punch for a relatively small stout. I'm impressed.
