Had on tap at the brewery
On arrival, 2 fingers of off white, tan head were resting on top of a clear, but dark amber body. Some nice lacing forms right off the bat.
Aroma is big, but immediately fruity, in a fresh cherry sort of way, which dominates quite a bit. There are some toasted malts behind that.
Flavor follows, the Aroma with the bright fruity flavor up front, but it is much more subdued than in the Aroma, and blends into the malts much more nicely. There isn't a lot of hops but there is some Aroma and flavor hops I'm picking up that impart a light herbal flavor, but not much in the way of bittering. Any sort of bready notes from the malts are covered by fermentation character.
The feel actually comes off as quite dry for being the Big Malty Winter Brew, but the finish is quite long and the body does build as you drink. It feels like a big beer that was fermented all the way down without anything else added other than grain to dry it out. Dry but a long and full finish.
Overall this is a decent beer with the right idea behind it, but the yeast seems to have gotten a little excited for my tastes. I really do like a clean malty taste and the ABV on this one really changes that profile compared to a mild or a bitter, but maybe I should've seen that coming.
