Hazy dark amber with a reddish tint. Adequate foam in the snifter with a little less than average carbonation on the tongue. Substantial malty body.
Grapey and anise notes from the violet (flower) flavoring, according to the brew mistress. Rich and warm with malt galore, but not very sweet. The Belgian yeast provides a lot of bitterish and brambly flavors. It seems to taste sweeter after some sipping.
A strange Belgian style brew, for sure, but quite interesting and sippable. On tap at the brewpub down by the tracks. Apparently new this week.
