This beer was difficult to pour at first. An enormous head-5-6F. The directions say to let the yeast settle before
serving, so after my first pour, I put a wine sealer in the bottle, and turned the bottle around so the yeast would settle. The pour was normal after that.
Pours a dark chocolate-black color in a Gordon Thistle glass. Excellent aroma, which I wish could be present in the taste. Toffee, sweetness, malt,.
The taste improves with warming. Toffee, bubblegum, sweet, finished by a good bitterness.
Overall, a very good Scotch Ale, which should be tasted at warmer temps. If the taste was as the aroma,
the beer would be quite excellent.

Poured from a recent bottling into the modified tulip glass.
A - Beautiful mahogany color, a tan cap covers the offering, with each draw a little cloud clings to the glasses edge.
S - Light brown sugar, toffee, a hint of mint. Second pass reveals kiss of smoke, wisp of vanilla and touch of peat.
T - Follows the nose to the t
F - Medium in body, a touch slick on the palate, delightful
O - Wonderful offering, that is now packaged in 500 ml bottles, A great addition to the seasonal offerings available here in WMass.

Had this on tap at The People's Pint. Nothing real special, just average. There wasn't anything that stood out positive or neg. Would have liked more ABV. I compare it to Oskar Blues Old Chub without the 8%

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a pint glass. Thin tan head. Moderate malty smoke aroma. Appearance is dark brown / garnet and clear. Low head. Flavor is balanced heavily toward malt. Strong caramel malt flavor with some smoke up front. Creamy/smooth finish.

22oz bottle purchased at Spirit Haus, Amherst, MA.
Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed 1/4" tan head over the cloudy reddish brown brew. Head is quickly down to skim that recedes to the rim, with average lacing but impressive legs. Aroma is peat and dark fruits.
Flavor is lightly smoky peat to start, muddled fruit in the middle, with earthy hops bitterness through the close. Slight lingering numbness after the swallow. Mouthfeel is smooth, and drinkability is alright. Nothing too much stands out on this one for me, still a solid brew though.

Nice tawny brown with red hues when held to the light. Good off-white head that was big on the pour but disappeared soon after.
Earthy notes up front, with the peaty edge coming through with the toasted malt. Some burnt sugars in the nose as well.
Earthy was the first thing I smelled, and this is very similar in taste. Good bread crust bitterness in the malt, although I would have liked a bit more sugar. A little toffee, over-browned bread, some slight smokiness in the malt, leading to long malt and bitterness. Nice richness and complexity.
Fuller bodied, with just the right amount of carbonation.
A really good domestic version of the style. Cannot compete with the imported, nor should it try. Feels fresh and complex enough to drive you to want more. Worthy.
