about as basic as it gets, not terribly well refined overall, and frankly one of the less impressive beers we had across two great basin locations. this is a shade richer looking than most, with a honey tone to it, some brightness despite imperfect clarity, and just a short white head that fades out fast. the aroma and flavor are identical here, lightly sweet, a little maltier than it looks, possible corn sweetness in the mix, and a bunch of minerals too, possibly even slightly metallic, generic on the ferment but with a little bread yeast thing happening too. subtle hints of honey and pancake batter, very little hops to speak of, and to me it drinks a bit heavy for the style, not as clean as it could be and so is also less refreshing than i generally look for in the style. beer flavored beer without much intrigue, but not poorly done either, just really old school and tame. they do a lot of cool and ambitious beers in here, and have some really solid and approachable classics, but this lackluster cream ale was neither for me, way rather work pints of their leave no trace if i am looking for something blonde and tidy and thirst quenching. i could see this being a neat base beer for some additional flavor, coffee comes to mind, but citrus too, might do better in that context but it kind of drinks like its missing something...
