A: half finger head on a near jet black body. Decent lacing.
S: Roasted malt, coffee, confectioners chocolate and very light earthy and pine hops.
T: strong roasted malt and coffee/espresso bitterness. Unfortunately this one loses the coffee a bit with just how bitter it is. As you drink this one you start to discover the pine, earthy and herbal hops which enter late and persist in the finish.
M: medium body and moderate carbonation.
Overall: this is a difficult genre for which I have only had two I feel capture the roasted malts and hop character in a balanced manner. This beer is good but it isn't one of those two however it's not an easy beer to be successful at.
