Poured from a growler filled on 2/4/2017.
Dropping Science is a copper-colored brew with a very full and fluffy white head. It is opaque, allowing very little light through. Lots of bubbles cloy to the side of the glass.
Caramel malts are prominent in the smell. Both pine and citrus are also present.
This beer is malty with quite a full and diverse hop punch. Citrus, pine, and even a bit of sharp spice all hit the palate, following the caramel and bread-laden malt character at the front of the mouth. Nice malt backbone to go along with potent and pleasing hops.
On the palate, this beer is full-flavored and biting. Carbonation is moderate.
Overall, this is a pleasing and flavorful DIPA. The malt and hop conjunction is welcome and presents a nice and balanced taste. DS has is potent in the hop category, which is expected of an 85-IBU brew. Very nice effort from an underappreciated Portland brewery.
