Belgian Trippel

Clear faint yellow pour. Typical belgian yeast smell with fruity notes that I find more like rancid fruit. More strongly flavored than their other beers, but still thin in body. Sharp lasting yeast flavor. Not my style of beer, nor a particularly great example I think.

Cloudy, light yellow. No active bubbles, small ring of foam for a head. Aroma is clove and... maybe vanilla? Flavor is sweet with cloves and lemongrass and a touch of black pepper. The waitress compared it to Blue Moon to help me understand what the beer would taste like. I smiled and thanked her. I hope didn't come off patronizing. I think I would compare it more to Hoegarden, but only superficially.

Well exectued and the alcohol content is very deceptive.

This Belgian Tripel poured a hazy, golden color with thin, white foam. The smell was characteristically Belgian tripel with some yeast aroma as well, but was modest. The taste was sweet (candy sugar) with modest Belgian tripel/Belgian pale ale flavors. The mouthfeel was smooth and crisp and moderately sweet with medium body and low carbonation feel. This was an OK tripel, but did not make me want to have more.

Appearance: golden yellow with a two inch thick head. Some moderate lacing developed during the session.

Smell: belgian yeast and some hint of pepper spiciness are easily detectable.

Taste: malt and fruit sweetness dominate this beer. Some belgian yeast spiciness, pepper, and hints of tart citrus rounds it out. Bitterness is mild. Alcohol is mildly noticeable.

Mouthfeel: crisp at the start, mildly dry and crisp at the finish. Medium bodied beer. Aftertaste is relatively brief as the sweetness lingers on the tongue.

Drinkability: Not many belgian tripels in Las Vegas, so it's nice to see one. Pleasant and enjoyable to drink and worth a try if it is on tap.
