So I didn't really know jack shit about Smoke Wagon, but thought it would be a decent gift for my brother one Christmas. Since then, I hear its blown up a little bit, so I was happy to find a barrel aged version of it in the beer world. Let's party. On tap at BeerNV.
Pours black. Makes a small beige head. 1/6". Aroma of bourbon, roasted malt and wood. Nothing like vanilla or chocolate coming through, its very straightforward, no nuance, two things: bourbon, barley, in torched form.
The taste gets better, even if albeit only slightly nuanced, and that's ok. You get a smoother mouthfeel than expected perhaps some of that light bourbon vanilla aspect is kicking down. Seeing its under 10% helps slightly methinks. Good unsweetened baker's chocolate aspect comes out in the taste and mouthfeel that wasn't there in the nose. This takes a cool nerd beer style like Baltic Porter and makes it better than it does without usually. I guess the lager like yeast aspect isn't there as much, but at the end of the day, its one of the best Tenaya Creek beers I've had. They seem to save their best for the big boys.

This. Wet pours a nice black color with very little tan head.
The taste of this beer! I like the taste of this beer! For a beer that barrel aged this one is smooth! You get a slight hint of alcohol at the end, but overall this beer beer is smooth. Great job you guys!
