The brewmaster’s pet. This rich and complex black beer has a smooth, deep, roasted flavor. The chocolatey-coffee finish in this brew comes from a mix of crystal, black, and chocolate malts.

All of my favorite porters seem to come from small breweries like this. Peavine porter, to me, is easily the best beer from Silver Peak, displaying a wonderful roasted dark malt profile. That chocolate and coffee flavor is near perfect. Very robust without being strong.

Comes out of the tap an opaque, warm, chocolaty sable with a thick light tan head that leaves some good lacing. Smoky aroma is downright ambrosial, with mocha and burnt hops notes. Delicious flavor has notes of smoked wood, quality coffee, chocolate and molasses. Firm body has good fizz and a lip-smacking fizzy and smoky finish.

A - Served a dark brown-black color with a finger of tan-brown frothy head. The head slowly fades leaving behind some thick lacing.

S - Aroma is a mix of chocolate malts and roasted coffee. There is also a touch of milk sweetness and hops.

T - Starts off with roasted chocolate malts and a bit of coffee flavor. The is a bit of background hops noticeable. Through the middle a bit of lactate sweetness alongside some more roasted flavors come through. The finish is roasted and slightly sweet and lingers.

M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. The beer feels smooth and just a bit creamy. The finish is slightly dry and roasted.

D - Very drinkable. Nice balance of roasted chocolate and coffee flavors. The touch of hops that I tasted was a nice addition.

Poured a beautiful opaque black with thin wispy head. Smells roasty - almost burnt.

Taste is also quite roasty with a nice chocolate flavor and even a little nutty element to it.

Mouthfeel is a bit thin, but not enough to drag it down much.

Overall, quite a tasty beer and a good example of the style. One of the better porters I have had in a while.

Sampled at the brewery on 4/13/08.

Solid effort. Beer is a bit darker than I would expect from a Porter, poured almost black, with a decent head.

Aromas are of dark bitter chocolate and some coffee notes as well.

Flavors follow suit. Dark chocolate, and coffee, with some bittering hops on the finish. The mouthfeel is good, you taste this one even after the beer is down your throat.

Drinkability is decent too. But a bit heavy, and I probably wouldn't want more than a couple of these.

A very inviting black color with hints of red. Good head retention and lacing.

Smells of roasted barley and coffee, very pleasing to say the least.

Taste is full of roasted barley and chocolate malt. Coffee comes through at the end to give it a nice bitterness and help out the hops. Goes down very smooth.

A very nice porter and one I will have to get when I'm out for dinner.
