Nevada, United States

Style: American Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This rich Stout combines real Belgian chocolate, locally roasted espresso beans and bourbon barrel aging to create an amazingly complex brew. Obvious notes of bourbon spiciness are balanced with more subtle notes of oak, vanilla and dark roast as the beer finishes with a pronounced coffee character.

Sinister stout today - rich in coffee and chocolate but not over powering, creamy, strong cacao flavor - and not over the top in ABV

Was surprised to see this on tap. Poured black, nice tan head, outstanding appearance, it was over 1" and had pretty phenomenal retention. Aroma was far from harsh, had the nice Elijah Craig sweet notes with plenty of chocolate.

More chocolate on the tongue, good body, husky but not syrupy and overly thick. Was nice they handled the blending so well, you get just a bit of bourbon, not a boilermaker of it with your beer. Incredibly balanced. Small dallop of vanilla to it, the wood aspect is very minimal.

One of, if not the best beer I've had from Silver Peak. Its very straightforward and done well. Server had no idea what age Elijah Craig barrel was used, didn't even know what Elijah Craig was, but was a great sport about it.

Pretty typical in appearance, black with light tan head. Smell is also pretty typical for boubon stouts, it's a good smell with well-roasted malt and a strong does of vanilla.

Taste is very good, with much better balance than most bourbon stouts. The bourbon is the driving force, but it is much smoother and more well-integraged than others.

Body is a bit light, but that works well with the smoother flavor to make this an incredibly drinkable bourbon stout. I've had a few other bourbon stouts, but this is my favorite. An excellent beer.

Sampled at the brewery on 4/13/08.

Black pour, brown head over an inch. Aroma was sweet chocolate and bourbon, nicely done.

Taste, smooth, hid the alcohol, dropped sweet chocolate, medium viscosity. Balanced, mild char, mild vanilla, mild oak. This is a magic carpet ride.

Just when you think SIlver Peak has let the times ride past them, they show they can do something really on edge and small scale like this.
