Best before 12/28/12 per growler cap.Poured into an imperial nonic a brilliant deep burnt orange with a blooming one and a half finger white head that settles very slowly into a frothy mass.Light sharpness from the rye as well as some grapefruit rind notes in the nose,I would have liked a little more aroma.A full creamy feel to the beer, just fantastic,it goes down way to easy. The rye and hop flavors are a little understated but are present, the hops give off a slightly citric and leafy element and the rye giving a little sharpness in a lingering finish.Man this beer is close to being great,a little more assertive nose and palate and this would be amazing, the mouthfeel is pretty much perfect for me,as it is it's still pretty damn good.

Appearance: Arrives with the liquid a clear amber color capped by a full head that leaves loads of lace
Smell: Floral, with honey tones as well as citrus and mango
Taste: Toffee, up front, with a developing tropical fruit, mango and grapefruit character by mid-palate; sweet and tropical floral tones, after the swallow, with a bit of rye and citrus in the finish
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation
Overall: A balanced IPA with a nice range of flavors; while I would prefer a bit more attenuation, I did appreciate that the range of flavors added a dimension missing from many IPAs that offer only citrusy bitterness

On tap at the brewery on 3/3/12.
Pours a dark orange with a thin lacing of soft white head. The nose is spicy, peppery, and has a great citrusy, hop aroma. The taste is very similar. The malt shines first with peppery, mildly spicy rye coming through nicely. The citrusy hops make for a smooth finish with notes of grapefruit and maybe a little mango. The malt-hop balance is great and really adds a good degree of drinkability. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and lightly carbonated with a smooth, clean finish.
This was a solid, balanced offering from their R&D section. The rye was solid and bitey, but didn't detract at all from the drinkability. The hop character did a great job smoothing things out. I would definitely have this again.

Pour is a nice amber with minimal head.
Smell is slightly soapy, with a spiciness from the rye. Hops add a bitter smell that only adds to the complexity.
Balance is the real key here. The rye is the focus. The rye spiciness dominates, and the Amarillo hops only add to that spiciness. The soapy malt comes in to balance all that spice. Very well done.

Pours a clear amber (some orange) with a small white head. SMell is of citrusy tangerine hops, also a certain 'wetness' in the nose. Taste is again citrus hops of the tangerine persuasion and a nice peppery malt (thank you Rye). Overall a very mellow taste. Mouthfeel is medium in boy and car with some hop oils.
I like RyePAs and this one is quite good. Not super intense and the Rye helps to lighten the body a bit and add some very nice prickly peppery notes in the taste and feel. Nothing jumps out on this one with the rye perhaps a bit understated.
