GABF Weekend '08:
A nice medium-gavity beer that has a robust cherry component that won't back down. The pour brings an average viscosity for a stout with fair head formation and retention-- basically your standard stout. Aromas of cherries jump out first, but not to be outdone by a quick follow up of coffee, roasted barley, and citrus hops. Flavors go back and forth from the cherry-chocolate flavor to roasted coffee flavors. The mouthfeel seems lighter than norma because of the acidty and tartness of the cherry additions. Still easy to drink despite the agressive flavors, including hops. Finishes tart, ligthly astringent, and with a coffee under current.

Bottle was a 2006 GABF left-over that was given to me as a reward for my volunteer efforts. Thanks a million to GABF and to Triple Seven Brewing for the opportunity. Entered into judging in category #4 (Fruit and Vegetable beer).
Pours a full finger of dark brown head over a pitch liquid. Smells roasty reamy, cherry, and mushrooms. Tastes sour, dark cherries, roasty, chocolate. Ashtray dryness. The cherry is well maintained. A bit of iron in the flavor, but reasonable. Wet on the tongue, but dry and woody in the aftertaste. Md body and md-heavy carbonation. Much more than I would expect from a stout.

Pours black with a reddish hue. Small brown head that dissipated rather quickly.
Aroma is sweet [honey] and roasted malts. Some hints of cherry come through as the beer warms.
Taste is dark cherries, sweet and a nice roasted malt backbone. Quite interesting and enjoyable.
Mouthfeel was medium bodied and somewhat lifeless.
Overall, very drinkable. Certainly worth trying. Would go good with a burger.

This stout is a "Brewmaster's special" that is available periodically throughout the year. This stout pours black (with some dark brown at the edges if held to the light) with nice, creamy, light tan foam that leaves some lace. The smell is dominated by cherries! But there is a hint of malt in the aroma, too. The taste is first and foremost black cherry (slightly sweet but also sour). The flavor of malt also comes through, with some caramel and toffee hidden under the cherries. The mouthfeel is a bit tart, but with a nice malty finish. This stout is clean and smooth. The drinkability is very good. I liked it very much, and did not think the cherries were overdone.
