On tap at Prime 16. Pours a pitch black color with over an inch of frothy medium brown head. Lots of lacing. Aromas of cocoa, molasses, licorice and leather. The taste is roasty with flavors of cocoa, espresso, and earth. Decent amount of alcohol heat, but I never would have guessed it's over 11%. Heavy body. I'm hoping this one isn't really retired because I want more of it.

10oz pour on tap.
12% beer with smooth mouthfeel and milky sweetness, roasty bitterness throughout. Vanilla, coffee, molasses, licorice, chocolate; some lactose and sourness shows midpalate. This one is 9 months cask-aged. Surprising style for Knee Deep, but a successful one.

On tap at Crazy Harry's in Winnetka, CA.
Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. A foamy curtain of lace coats the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, char, and cookie dough aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder, cookie dough, char, and slight dark fruit flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with a great mix of cocoa, cookie dough, and char qualities all around.
Serving type: on tap.
