Beautiful black brew with a solid tan head; perfect retention.
Aroma reveals little; chocolate and pine, perhaps.
A touch thin for a stout, but with sticky retention; very long finish. Flavor is a surprise: roasted and toasted malts complemented by earthy and green hops. Touches of chocolate, coffee, and char on the finish. Perhaps a hint of peppers, but it doesn't stand out. The peppers become more noticeable as the brew warms and the flavors build, but they lean toward vegetal vice hot.

Poured from a 32oz crowler
Appearance - Deep, nigh black chocolate brown with a slight reddish hue with a khaki, finger width head. Good retention.
Smell - Moderate aroma of earth, light chocolate, roasted malt and with a light hint of spice.
Taste - Follows the nose. Earthen notes. Cocao. Light milk chocolate sweetness. Coffee roast that picks up in the finish, along with a light spice bite. Only the tiniest bit of heat from the chilis lingers in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - Close to full-bodied with moderate carbonation. Slick texture makes this go down easy, especially for a 10-point-five'er.
Overall - A good, but not great spiced impy from Knee Deep, and I certainly wouldn't put it in the same league as some of the better ones I've had. Lacks ideal heat and flavor depth. Worth a try if you ever go to their taproom, but nothing to get too excited about.
