On tap at brewery:
This is a blood orange IPA, as described by the bartender.
Has the look of the NE IPA, maybe a slightly watery version of the orange shake-like concoctions I've seen elsewhere. Pulpy orange/grapefruit juice, with a head is thin but sustaining.
Nose is similar - orange citrus with a pithy grapefruit bitterness.
Taste keeps the line moving, citrusy notes on a thick, bitter mouthfeel. First sips had a quite citric tartness finishing the beer that otherwise started out in the NE IPA style. Sweet grapefruit cut by oranges initially, a pithy bitterness or orange rind soon takes its place in the mix. As it warms, the tart notes lessen, and a grapefruit pith bitterness lingers deeper into the taste.
A little more thin in the end than other beers in the sub-style, but not overly concerning. I started out iffy on this, but kept increasing my score here and there by the time I finished it.
