On cask at the brewpub. Unimpressive looking beer with a hazy straw color and little foam. Smells much better with orange, caramel, and earth tones. Great taste for an APA. A strong mix of sticky dankness and citrusy bitter hops. Nice sweet malt backbone. Great on cask.

On draft at the source
Look: Appears a crystal clear, light yellow color. Looks very much like a Pilsner. Not much head but lots of bubbles flowing upwards.
Smell: Some crisp notes (fresh apple) but overall very little aroma on this one. I get a soap type smell which makes me think the glassware wasn't fully washed.
Taste: Mellow flavor upfront followed by a malt backbone and bitterness. Very crisp and easy drinking, although there is more bitterness here then I expect out of an APA.
Feel: Medium to medium-light body
Overall a pretty standard pale ale. The mellow flavor gives it a somewhat unique taste but the lack of aroma and bitterness knock it down notch.

Draft at the source.

Transparent golden body, effervescent, small, off-white collar. Aromas of caramel malt, pine, earthy hops. Tangy hops, medium sweetness, fruity, earthy malts. Light in body with mild bitterness. I prefer hop forward pale ales to malty ones, so this one misses the mark for me.

Enjoyed at the brewery. Half finger head on a clear golden body. Excellent lacing. Aroma is very malty and a little musty. Flavor follows this set up with pale malts, light sweet corn and little hops. I almost thought the wrong beer was given to me with this one. It is advertised as an APA made with English malts. Very odd. Basically it is either a bad APA or a good English pale ale. Medium in body with moderate carbonation.

From 08/13/11 notes. Had on tap at Mad Fox. Served in a pint glass.

a - Pours a hazy orange-yellow color with two inches of white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of pepper, yeast, light mint, and some citrus hops. Good, but seemed a bit more saison like to me than an APA.

t - Tastes of citrus hops, some pine hops, and light spices and pepper. More hoppy than the nose and as much like a saison, though some pepper is still there.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation.

o - Overall a pretty good beer. I ordered the saison right after this to make sure he didn't accidentally give me that, as the nose wasn't too hoppy, but this was the APA. Not a bad beer and worth checking out.

I had this at Mad Fox.

A: Golden orange, crystal clear, with a slight sawdust-style head on top of the liquid. Yep... definitely a Pale Ale!

S: Mild puffs of citrus, with a nice malt presence to boot. Nothing too glamorous.

T: Yeasty and bitter.... much more bitter than I was expecting actually. Solid citrus orange notes and a fairly dry finish.

M: Not the smooth drinker I was hoping for because of the bitter elements, but still pretty good. Spotty lacing.

On tap at Mad Fox. Served in a pint glass.

Pours a caramel-amber color with a two-finger off-white head and some sticky lacing on the way down. Thin cap throughout. The nose brings forward a bit of light bready malt plus some moderate caramel and a bit of toast. Hops are present -- some citrus and pine, but nothing overwhelming. Lots of balance with the malt. Taste balances malt and hops without any really taking over. A bit too much malt for my tastes. Nice bitterness in the finish, which complements the chewy body of the beer. Pretty good brew, but I'll stick with Orange Whip.

Beer served on draft at Mad Fox, it is unclear to me if this is the same beer as the American Pale Ale listed for this establishment but since it is a different name and different ABV I am adding it, if I am in error please merge this with the other entries.

Beer is amber and mostly clear with a thin white head, mildly hazy, moderate to low carbonation.

Aroma is mildly hoppy, some graininess. Overall it is fine.

Beer has a mild solvency to the finish. It is not too offputting but I don't think I'd want too many of these. The IPAs are always so good, this APA falls a little short IMO. Not quite there. Mildly grainy finish, overall decent body.
