A nice twist on the Belgian IPA range, long, complex and stimulating with a distinct hoppy edge.
Presentation: Growler fill from Bill Madden´s Mad Fox. Menu notes intent, basic ingredients, and main characteristics, and 7.85% Alc. by Vol. Served in a tulip glass from the growler (also had on tap on a tulip glass at the brew pub).
A - Slightly hazy medium to deep amber pour, soft creamy head with moderate surface memory and nice touches of lacing.
S - Fruity and spicy nose, hint of alcohol in a nice dash of turpentine coating orange rinds, mandarin, clove and some tropical touches...
T - Taste flows in sync with a longer spicy sense over the range of citric peels, caramel coated fruit… and spices… some clove and pepper. Rather good combo all things considered.
M - Medium to medium/full body, medium/light carbonation with a smooth flow punctuated by a nice complex/bitter and lingering finish.
O - Nice take on a Belgian IPA...
Notes: …and a nice collab. Surely the highlight of this visit to Mad Fox for most folks around the table and well deserving of the growler to take home. I'd love to see this as a regular offering.

Had this on-tap at Mad Fox. I guess this was one of the Craft Brewers Conference specials.
Served in a tulip at Mad Fox.
S: The Belgian yeast strain is DEFINITELY alive and well here. Holy crap! Lots of that sort of funk combined with the citrus components.
T: Same as the smell only more intense. I dug this, but the Belgian yeast strain might be too intense for some. The citrus was in there somewhere.
M: Not that spritzy, but still quite good. Lacing was about right.
O: Admittedly, this is not my favorite style. However, this was a very drinkable entry.

Pours a hazy light orange pour with 1/2 an inch of white head and modest lacing. The nose is citrusy/pineapple with a touch of Belgian yeast. The taste carries a touch of yeast, pineapple hops and thick, syrupy sweetness dragging the flavor down. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, relatively sweet syrupy, citrusy/pineapple hoppy and yeasty. This beer is a tasty Belgian IPA, but there isn't enough fresh hoppy crisp to balance out the yeast and sweetness (compared to a bittetmonk for instance).
