Supposed to be a collaboration with Bluejacket. On tap at Church Key in Washington, DC. Big carbonation and a nice head in what they call a "pokal"-- a tall, straight tulip.

What is that weird flavor? Horehound candy? some kind of candy along with the scorched barley. Burnt sugar with a fruity aroma. A little winey with a sugary undertone. That perfumey taste is intriguing but reminds me too much of canned fruit cocktail.

This is a nice mouthful of suds, but a little too prickly for this malty style. A definite oddity but not my idea of a good Doppelbock.

Pours a hazy copper brownish body with champagne-like carbonation and good head retention. Aromas are very sweet and brown sugary, with big notes of candy and flower bouquets. Tastes like a sweet version of Irish soda bread, with a candyish finish. Delightful stuff.

On-tap at Mad Fox.

A: Very murky, maroon, almost purple color, with a nice frothy, slightly off-white head that stuck around for a bit.

S: Very bready and toasty, without the in-your-face sugar bill that commonly plagues this style to my mind. Subtle, yet effective.

T: Like the nose only more intense. Think melted lollipop, very malt and grain forward, with a crisp clean finish that was to die for.

M: Like I stated before, you won't get a sugar rush from this, perfect in the body category, and very "light" on the palate overall. The ABV is dangerously well hidden.

O: This particular style is a tough sell for me, but this is one of the best I've had in a while. Mad Fox, you single-handedly re-invigorated my curiosity towards this style. Kudos!
