Served on draught into a 250ml half-pint glass with a tapered top at Ma Che Siete Venuti in Rome, Italy. Reviewed from notes. Expectations were high.
A: Pours a two finger wonderful tan head of great cream lacing, excellent thickness, and excellent retention. Colour is a solid black.
Sm: Chocolate, toffee, cream, and rye. Moderate in strength.
T: Chocolate and toffee body with a rye twist on the climax. Strangely built indeed. Quite simple as well, which was contrary to expectation (and hope). A bit imbalanced on account of the overpowering rye. Bold and inspired in spite of its numerous flaws. Some nut comes through.
Mf: Smooth, thick, and quite wet for the style. Partly matches the flavours of the body.
Dr: High price. A bold attempt at an uncommon brewing style. I like it, but I do think the rye holds it back.
