June 30th, 2015 - Enjoyed at Toronado, the Craftsman Brewing Sour Saison smells like a classy Halloween snack table, with caramel apple, a fresh note of green apple, and a thick ribbon of rich caramel. The carbonation is low though - not flat, just calm. At first I'm worried that it won't be able to do the heavy lifting on an acerbic, fruity beer. But the flavor features less green apple reliant, and more caramel. That teeth sticking caramel lasts a long time into the aftertaste, making this the perfect beer for a carnival. Acidic, yes, but mild overall. And if you're diligent, you'll find the slightest, grainy saison taste in the beginning before that caramel note takes over.
