BOTTLE: bomber. Unbranded pry-off pressure cap. Decent label art.
Served cold into a Sam Adams perfect pint glass at high altitude in Castle Rock, CO. Reviewed live as an American wheat ale per the label.
HEAD: White with a faint pink hue. Frothy, fluffy, and fizzy. Around 2.5 inches wide. Leaves lacing on the sides of the glass as the head recedes.
BODY: Deep orange-auburn. Abundant floating yeast particles are plainly visible - indicative of a lack of filtration - but it isn't hazy.
It's a nice appearance for an American wheat.
AROMA: Sweet cherries. Not the tart cherries I was hoping for. Luckily, it's not medicinal or redolent of cough syrup. Wheat. I suspect cherry puree was used given the lack of genuine cherry character.
Aromatic intensity is average.
Suggests a middling simple brew.
TASTE: Generic cherry puree. No tartness at all. Wheat. Plain barley. It's a pretty simple uninspired brew, and brings no intricacy or subtlety to the table at all. Okay balance. Average depth and duration of flavour.
TEXTURE: Mildly overcarbonated. Smooth, wet, medium-bodied, unrefreshing. A bit sticky. Meh.
There's no harmony of texture to taste.
OVERALL: Not a gestalt build for a wheat ale. Pretty forgettable. The cherry is pretty inexpressive, and the wheat backbone is basic. Subpar work from Elk Mountain. I wouldn't recommend it to friends.
