Assassin day 2018. Least favorite of the three. Still damn good!

Draft at Assassin 2018 release at TG.
Dark, completely opaque appearance with no foam upon pour. Dark roasted coffee dominates the aroma. Present in the flavor as well, which also offsets the sweetness of reg Assassin (the base beer for this is Assassin 2016). The feel is not as thick as either the Coconut or reg Assassin, which was a bit surprising. Still not thin by any means.
I preferred this to the Coconut Assassin (only because I prefer coffee flavors to coconut) but I still maintain the regular Assassin as the best of the bunch. Regular Assassin is just perfectly executed and balanced. Adding adjuncts just seems to have taken some of the balance out of it and 'dulled' some of it's finer qualities. But do not get me wrong: this is still an exceptional beer I would order any day. For a Coffee BA IS, it is way up there.

This beer was phenomenal. Deep coffee roast, sticky mouthfeel, wow.

Black with red edges and a thick mocha blanket.
Mocha is the first thing I get, decadent but with a sharp acidity. This seems to have thinned out the base beer quite substantially, as such it's not as indulgent or viscous and delectably adult as regular Assassin. I also get Raisinettes, caramel, date, fig and cherry. It's much more frothy than the base as well, with a crisp, dry finish.

Consumed at the MD Day 2017 public opening.
Maybe my pallat is garbage but I didn't get much complexity in this beer. Not a lot of coffee, mostly sweet dark fruit. It's a good beer and very thick but it was one note to me and very similar to regular 2016 Assassin.
