Lua Brewing and Sapwood Cellars Brewery visited us at Toppling Goliath to go on a mission, venturing into uncharted territory by exploring previously unrecognized and underutilized aromatic compounds naturally occurring in hops. Harnessing the power of these compounds, we were able to achieve aromatic notes of bright, tropical passionfruit, orange and grapefruit while still maintaining the fine line of balance. It was quite the paradoxical challenge, but as they say, “nothing ventured, nothing gained.” Join us on a journey into another universe of flavor!

Pours a hazy, dark orange coloration with a large, fluffy head. Smells of light biscuitry malt and tropical, citrus hops, with notes of passion fruit and grapefruit, as well as hints of dankness Taste is an excellent balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, juicy, dank, slightly spicy and resinous hops, with tropical and citrus notes of passion fruit, mango, papaya, grapefruit, orange and lime peel, as well as hints of pine, lemongrass, peppery spice and herbal weed. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some passion fruit, grapefruit, lemongrass, pine and weed lingering in the aftertaste. Soft, pillowy mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
This reminds me a lot of the European NEIPAs that I love so much insofar as it's quite hazy and juicy, but also dank and slightly resinous, with a good bitterness in the finish. The hops stand out rather expressive and well-defined here, with bright passion fruit from the Galaxy/Strata, grapefruit from Simcoe and mango/orange from Citra, as well as Strata and Simcoe adding those dank, resinous accents. Really well-balances NEIPA that dares to be a little different and just to my personal, with a great body and mouthfeel as well.

Poured into a Tree House glass a very nice cloudy pale yellow color, with some very nice carbonation, with a very nice thick/creamy one-finger plus off-white head, which also leaves some very nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is very nice, hoppy, malty, with a very nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, mango, peach, nectarine, apricot, passion fruit, cantaloupe), with a very nice diesel like. The taste is very nice, hoppy, malty, with a very nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, mango, peach, nectarine, apricot, passion fruit, cantaloupe), with a very nice diesel like. Medium body, ABV is hidden very nicely, with a pretty nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, this is a very tasty beer. Very nice to see it around here. Orange Julius! Addictive! MilkShake!

Look - pours a hazy orange with 1 inch white head. Lots of lacing left at the end of this session.
Smell - tropical, mango, ripe fruit, dankness
Taste - very juicy, ripe tropical fruit, sweet orange, lime, little bitterness to balance it out
Feel - Medium bodied with a dry, bitter, juicy finish. Medium carbonation.
Overall - Excellent! Has familiar hop flavors and feel to other Toppling Goliath offerings I've had. This was a little more juicy though. I paired this collaboration brew with Man in the Box by Alice in Chains.

poured from a 32oz crowler filled yesterday into a TG standard pint glass. pours out of the can a hazy yellow (almost like mountain dew) but settles in the glass a hazy orange with two fingers of fluffy white foam. citrus and earthy, herbal or vegetal aromas and flavors. quite bitter as it warms but it’s tasty. medium-full, creamy mouthfeel. not as good as TG is capable of but still solid.
