Bottled beer seved in a pint glass.
Appearance -
Pours with a little bit of brown froth and quickly dissipates to a thin film. Lots of lacing on the side of the glass. A dark red-brown colour which is near opaque. Little carbonation is evident.
Smell -
Red wine, dark chocolate, espresso, peppercorn, wafers, caramel.
Taste -
Follows the nose – lots of coffee, cacao, a hint of fortified wine and alcohol sweetness, moderate bitterness on the way down, cherry and choc orange – not overly rich and very drinkable.
Mouthfeel -
A bit of tingle on the tounge, medium and slightly creamy body, smooth clean and crisp on the way down, quite refreshing.
Overall -
A strong but easily drinkable dark ale. Not overly rich and easily drinkable. The flavours could be a bit more prominent, but overall there's lots to enjoy.
