Brewed for GABS Festival in Melbourne, May 2014. Out of deference to brewer Stu's wife (I heard through the grapevine?) I've gone with the more politically-correct version of the beer name, and the one that appeared above the bars although not in the official programme.
Pours an amber colour, cloudy - almost sedimenty - with nice beige crown of foam up the top. Lovely lacing. Looks English and great.
Smells grainy, and malty. Caramel edge with a touch of peanuts as well. Bit of honey. Lovely English malts with just a touch of NZ fruity hops.
Taste is also great. Grainy upfront that blossoms into more complexity - Robust malt with a touch of roast and a touch of sweet spice. Maybe reminiscent of rye spice, and gets quite dry on the back so leaves you feeling clean but having experienced something big and important.
Body is quite nice for the style - not ground-breakingly filling or textured but smooth.
Love that slight dry spice. Lovely, traditional English ale with bags of malt character. Great drop.
