a neat beer, i think a blend of a couple of different new zealand hopped beers, done in cask format, and pretty delicious, albeit not as fresh to me as it could be to be at its best, but its always cool to encounter a beer from these guys, and i thought they did a good job with this. its super light even without much carbonation, real pale in color, straw yellow, with a short but airy white head on it and a real simple malt base from what i can gather, pale two row, a little pils malt, thats probably it, dry and clean and simple on that side, intentionally leaving a ton of room for the hops to really define the beer. somewhat more bitter and higher alpha character than i was anticipating, bitter not just at the end either, but all the way through. bitter spruce, bitter citrus, and a juicy melon and white winey flavor to the hops as well, id love to know what all varietals are in the mix here, but it seems like its pretty much continually hopped, aromatic, bitter, the full range. i thought this might be a little more distinct, or at least specifically new zealand hoppy, and its really not, but its drinkable and flavorful and good, maybe just off fully fresh. cool to have on cask, but i dont think this type of beer is best suited to that format generally speaking...
