I was given a 22 oz. bottle by someone who works for the brewery that I met at a beer tasting party. Poured into an Avery cognac glass. Bottling date is missing.
Look: Thick, black, with small medium-brown head.
Smell: Smells very strongly of bourbon and not much else. A bit of sourness.
Taste: Strong molasses and bourbon flavors. Very hot/boozy.
Feel: Pretty thick and syrupy. Little carbonation.
Overall: Decent, but kind of one-dimensional for a style that is usually very complex.

Bourbon Black Saddle releases #1 and 2 at the Crystal Springs tap room.
These were my first tastings of CS, their bottle prices have always made me hesitant, but in the tap room, $2/ taster was just right.
According to the server #1 was aged in Bulleit barrels, #2 aged in Cedar Ridge barrels (she thinks). Or it could have been vise versa , quite frankly it didn't matter much.
Both were a solid black color, barely any light sneaking through.
Scent on both were roasted malt, on the burnt side. I found #1 to have a more prominent scent.
Both had a fairly full mouthfeel, nearly identical.
Both tasted similar enough, #1 again a bit stronger, and both had what I found to be an unpleasant sour tinge to it.
I haven't had the standard Black Saddle, so I can't say if that is a trait of the base beer or not. But both versions of the BBBS had it, it tasted more like it had been aged in wine barrels instead of bourbon. This is where these beers lose me.
I wasn't about to buy bottles anyway, but at $15/22oz it wasn't even close to being a consideration.
