An American Oatmeal Stout that has a smooth mouthfeel, with notes of chocolate and roasted barley, and a pleasant dry finish.

Had Bitter Resolution at the new Chattanooga Brewing Taproom, 730 Chestnut St., Chatt., on draft into shaker.
Pours nearly completely black, letting only a little brown light through at the very edges, with 2-finger, light-tan, oatmeal-dimpled head, with excellent retention, leaving beautiful Belgian lace etched down the glass. Mild chocolate and bigger roast malt aromas off pour, then herbals and some mild but sharp (persimmon?) fruit aroma as warms. On tasting, begins smooth and briefly sweet, and nicely carbonated, before big but not overly roasted malts arrive, eventually joined by a little smooth chocolate, which together carry into a big, biting, clean, herbally-bitter finish.
A pleasantly uncomplicated beer, which feels and tastes less like an Oatmeal Stout and more like a big but excellent Irish Dry Stout.
