This is the third anniversary brew for the Local Habit bar and restaurant in Hillcrest. I know it's called "Secundus," but that's because it's the second beer brewed specially for the place by Mike Hess.

Dark coppery amber color in the tall tulip. Rich and a little sugary, but the Belgian drying effect blows in and leaves a sharp tang on the tongue. Plenty of carbonation to start and a pleasant fizz lasting to the finish.

Interesting aroma of woody spice with a long nose of dried pears and an appley scent. This is one of the better Dubbels I've had in a long time. It seems to have the right balance among fruit, sweetness, and the yeasty edge. This is also an encouraging sign that Hess is making an outstanding beer.
