An homage to the birthplace of the high gravity IPA, our super imperial pale ale pours straw in color, with a white head. An amazing sensual assault from start to finish, with massive hop aroma, rich malt backbone and clean bittering to finish dry, keeping you warm on those cool San Diego evenings.

October 12th, 2013 - Now known as the Gladius, formerly known as the Amplus Acerbus Triple IPA, this thing, whatever you call it, is a massive hop bomb. When I think of San Diego style IPAs and the arms race to bundle more hops into brews, this is what I conjure up. The nose is piney, high and hoppy, with a little unopened orange, and that sticky, pine resinous feel that I often get in Double IPAs. But the flavor is calmer. Hops hits hard at the mid-taste, and increases the bitter pang on the aftertaste. The palate begins with a roiling boil, and ends with a deep, incredibly hoppy finish, smoothed out and bold. This beer is powerful enough to combat some brutally spicy jalapeƱo empanadas I enjoyed earlier, which is a real testament to the robust flavors in here.
