This is the brightest double IPA I’ve ever had! At 8.5% ABV, you won’t believe how bright and succulent this brew is. Pours a cloudy orange/yellow…nice head and lacing. This is beer that you can drink multiple cans of—no problem! Delicious and thirst quenching—this is in my top 3 favorite IPAs. Don’t sleep on this one! I tried Mike Hess’ Solis first before trying this one; Mandatory Fun tastes exactly like Solis except with 8.5% ABV vice 7.5% ABV.

This one is tough to rate. I found a single can available at the local Trader Joe's, and brought it home to try, being a fan of Mike Hess Brewing in general.
The color is a nice golden color, with a moderate head. The smell was pleasant, with a hint of lemongrass and pine (?). It's the taste that is tough to rate. The lemongrass and bitterness of the hops stand out, but not much more. I wondered, for a time, if it was tainted in some way. The more I drank, though, the less I thought that. The carbonation is more moderate than anything else, but there isn't much in the way of an aftertaste. It definitely has that Double IPA punch, though. Subtle at first, but after I consumed the entire can I noticed.
Overall, it's not one of Hess' better brews. It's OK, but that's not the ringing endorsement that I'd give to, say, their Hop Cloud Hazy, which I really like.
