Head quickly relents to a mere trim, but a swirl would rejuvinate that on command. Dark mahogony with some copper sienna shade. Nearly opaque. Both aroma and taste dominated by coffee flavour - but strong, expresso! More than enough to wake you up! A lot of dark chocolat notes. Fairly light bodies and seems to have avoided much of the roast element. Ends on a lactic, sourness, I think result of the yeast which is detectable. Not much complexity but some uniquely Italian touches that lend a slightly different dimension.

Colour: black. The foam is beige, compact, soft, creamy, with good laces.
Smell: we're in territory of burned caramel, toasted, coffe, liquorice, bitter herbs, chickory.
The taste is toasted again, with again liquorice, chickory, and coffee, but less sharp and decided as in the smell, a bit "washed". There are also hints of hazelnut. And artichokes.
Medium-medium-low body.
The aftertaste is not completely satisfating, with toasted and bitter herbs.
I remember this beer on tap some years ago, and i remember it better than this...
