Another offering by John Boston, the supermarket brand owned by Pinnacle Drinks. This time their 'Summer Ale', capitalizing on the Pacific/Tropical ales which are popular in Australia especially in the warm climate for their light, fruity aroma taste and overall refreshment.
Look: very light straw yellow, typical of the style. Head is non-existant after a minute. Clear, and very carbonated. As of the style, it looks refreshing.
Smell: As is a common theme with JB beers, a syrupy malt smell, but does have a typical citrus and stone fruit aroma of the style. But it's underwhelming compared to the malty syrupy sweetness.
Taste: As is a common theme with JB beers it's very sweet. The tropical bitterness from the hops which are so common with these beers is there, but it's minimal. It doesn't have the tropical bunch you re looking for. The flavour feels more like an afterthought. Same goes with the bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Thin, watery and somewhat refreshing. Would be more refreshing with more hop prominence.
Overall: it's a poor reflection of the style. Like so many of their beers, it just lacks overall body and flavour. The flavour is there, just minimally so.
