A 500ml bottle with a BB of April 2014. Picked up a while back from a supermarket. Brewed in collaboration with a TV chef for the purpose of complementing chicken. However, I'm having it on its own....
Poured into a tulip pint glass. An amber colour with slight floating sediment and low carbonation. Forms a decent head of white foam that lasts for a minute or two before collapsing to a patchy surface layer. Aroma of grainy malt with hints of honey, biscuits, grass/hay, fruity ale yeast and faint stewed leaves. Slightly sweet.
Tastes of light grainy malt with a mild finish. Notes of subtle grain, fruity ale yeast, grass/hay, a twinge of caramel and stewed leaves. A touch of cardboard in the background. Faintly sweet, followed by a weak, leafy bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with light carbonation and a thin, insubstantial body. Vaguely astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of stewed leaves, yeast and a whisper of malt.
Meh - dull and boring. Lacklustre looks, while the aroma and flavour are an uninspired blend of grainy malt and grassy hops. Feeble body. Nothing technically wrong with it but nothing to recommend it either. Insipid and characterless - give it a miss.
