Mandarina Bavaria is a fairly new hop, grown in Hull, Germany. It has only been available to brewers since 2012. Its lineage is the Cascade hop and is Germany’s answer to the fruit-forward New World hops like Citra and Galaxy. Mandarina imparts fantastic Satsuma mandarin orange flavor. It has a nice, fruity aroma and is an all-around great hop to stand alone in a Single Hop IPA.

Poured from a 22oz bomber. Rich amber in color with a great looking head; tons of stick and lace. Super fruity in the nose with a dusting of malt. Super creamy on the palate, with fruity, malty base. Slight esters and alcohol notes. Overripe mandarin oranges dominate, with a toasty malt flavor and hint of caramel beneath. Some grapefruit, pine, and oiliness hangs around with a light linger of ripe fruits, but eventually dries out with an ashy, leafy feel on the palate.

Mandarina Bavaria is an interesting hop. Overall, I'm not fan of the single use of it, however, it was nice to see it showcased here.
