The onset of cold weather here in Northern California signals the coming of a very special time of year: citrus season! We are celebrating with the our Blood Orange American Sour. The blood orange is the darling of the citrus world with its trademark sweet and tart citrus flavors and a richer, berry-like sweetness. The beer pours a deep ruby red color in the glass and explodes with an amazing aroma of 35,000 fresh cut oranges.
The complex character of the blood oranges engulfs your palate, big and juicy. Subtle notes of American Oak dance in the background, playing nicely with the Brettanomyces but staying smooth and mellow after 18 months in our cellar. There is no question that the Blood Oranges are the stars of the show. Oak and vanilla become more apparent as the beer warms, and your mouth adjusts to the sweet and sour complexity of the blood oranges. Very drinkable and even a little refreshing, this one is hard to put down.
