Pours a Shiny black color. Thin fizzy mocha colored head dissipates steadily leaving no residual head. Beer appears pretty carbonated and somewhat fizzy.

Aroma has notes of coffee - mostly old grinds - with some roasted malt notes, and cocoa and lactose, hint of grain is present too.

Taste has strong notes of coffee. Dark bold roasted coffee, coffee grinds, roasted malts, with hints of cocoa, lactose, milk chocolate, and slightly bitter hops and grinds on the back end.

Feel is light, somewhat rough. Vibrant fizzy carbonation. Semi-dry finish.

Overall this is an okay beer. The coffee is a bit bitter and more reminiscent of the grinds.

16 oz can, dated 1/17/18. Dark brown to black pour with a grey-beige head of 2 fingers, receding to a thick ring with lots of lace.

Aromas of deep peppery coffee grounds, slight sour malt, oats, lactose.

Yep, it's a coffee stout alright. Lots of peppery, ashy, dark coffee, There's a note that doesn't sit right though, and it's a sour note mostly associated with poorly executed brown ales. Maybe it's infection. Reminds me of hazelnut somewhat. Apart from the "infected" note, I get mostly only coffee. Pretty one noted. Maybe a touch of lactose.

Creaminess meets coffee acidity, with a tight firm carbonation with a slightly dry, still carbonated finish.

Overall, not really a fan.

Dark brown cola like beer with a light tan head on it.
The smell is of roasty coffee mixed with a little sweetness.
The taste has a nice bitterness at the beginning that turns into the roasty coffee. Really well balanced, but could bring more flavor to the table.
The feeling dries up pretty quick while some of the flavor stays after.
Overall, this is a great morning beer.

Pours a black color with a minimal tan head that disappears quickly. Aroma is coffee and cocoa. Strong taste of coffee with hints of malt and cocoa. Finishes with a slight hoppy bitterness.

Rochester Mills back again with another Milkshake Stout variation. I'd complain, but this one works quite well. Poured from pint can to tulip glass. Pour is oily black with little/no foam. Maybe a fingernail's worth of mocha bubbles. Big aromas of roast coffee waft upwards while pouring. Taking a big sniff from the glass gets you coffee grounds, char, sweet cream, dark malts/dark bread, and a nuttyish undertone. Sweet cream and nice roasty coffee mingle on the tongue at first, with char/dark bread/nutty dryness finishing it up. Medium feel, clean finish.

I picked up a can of Rochester Mills Woodward Bold Coffee Milkshake Stout for $2.29 at The Lager Mill. Even though I always find these thinner than I would like I still like to try the new variations of this beer, so lets see how it goes. 2017 Vintage. Poured from a tall 16oz can into a imperial pint glass.

A- The label looks nice, it goes well with the name and it's just a little eye catching. It poured a dark black color that didn't change color when held to the light and it had almost a fingers worth of fizzy tan head that died down to a thin ring that eventually faded away and it didn't leave much lacing behind. This is a nice looking beer, but I wish it had better head and lacing.

S- The aroma starts off with a slightly higher amount of medium sweetness with the coffee being the first to show up and it imparts a nice bold black coffee aroma with a little bit of chocolate coming through giving it a little bit of a mocha aspect and it's followed by a little bit of dark fruits that show up in the background. Up next comes a little bit of nutty aroma that leads into the malts which impart some dark malt, roasted malt, light charred malt and sweet malt like aromas. This beer has a pretty nice aroma, the coffee is highlighted just how it should be.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma and it starts off with a slightly higher amount of medium sweetness with the coffee still being the first to show up and it imparts that same black coffee aspect that it did in the aroma and it's followed by the chocolate which shows up just enough to give it a little bit of a mocha aspect and this time no dark fruits show up. Up next it's slightly watery with a little bit of a nutty flavor that goes into the malts which impart all the same aspects that they did in the aroma with no single aspect sticking out the most. On the finish there;s a slightly lighter amount of medium bitterness with a coffee, light chocolate and light roasted malt like aftertaste. This is a nice tasting beer, but it would be better with more creamy and malty flavors to cover up the watery aspects.

M- Fairly smooth, crisp, a little watery, not too creamy, medium bodied with a higher amount of medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is ok, but I wish it was thicker and creamier so it wouldn't be so watery.

Overall I thought this was a nice beer and it's a solid example of the style, it was going in the right direction, but just like all the other beers in this series when it came to the mouthfeel and watery aspects it started to fall apart and it held back from being as good as it could be. This beer had ok drinkability, one would be my limit. What I like the most about this beer is the aroma, it was nice and fairly well balanced. What I like the least about this beer is the body, it's just too watery to be called a Milkshake stout. I wouldn't buy this beer again, but I don't think I would turn one down and I wouldn't recommend it as a must try. All in all I didn't mind this beer, but I didn't love it and it could use a little more work to get to where it needs to be. It's not a favorite from this brewery or in this series and it's a little above average for the style. Better luck next time guys, this one could still use a little more work.
